Ministry of Finance, IMF to host Artificial Intelligence conference in Accra
Experts Discuss AI's Impact on Emerging Economies and Strategies for Harnessing Its Benefits
The Ministry of Finance and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will host an Artificial Intelligence (AI) summit in Accra on Monday, March 18, 2024. The event aims to unravel the challenges and opportunities AI poses for developing countries such as Ghana. Financial and information technology experts believe that while AI has the potential to transform economies in Africa, it could also present challenges for economic growth and development in countries south of the Sahara due to their unique characteristics.
According to recent IMF research, about 40% of jobs in emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs) will be impacted by AI, with 26 percent of jobs in low-income countries likely to be affected. Although the risk of immediate AI-related disruptions may be lower in EMDEs than in advanced economies, these countries are also less equipped to harness the benefits of AI effectively. (Read More)
